MamiDressed in a kimono, stepping on a long and long Yunlong paper roll on the ground, first in the air, and then picking up a large brush from the side, a bubble in a bowl of ink. When the pen was lifted, the ink splattered on the paper, and she bent down as if she was being led by writing, letting the lines flow, rotate, and dry—the whole process of writing, like a ritual.

The history and inheritance of Japanese book art should be discussed from the spread of calligraphy from China to Japan. As time goes by, calligraphy has gradually combined with its own cultural spirit and value in Japan. It is expressed in tea ceremony, flower path and utensils, and the characters of cursive characters have become the source of hiragana. Therefore, in addition to writing Chinese characters in Japanese books,Hiragana is also used extensively, which makes the book works have strong fluidity and freedom, and the use of words and blank space derives its own aesthetics. on the other hand,Influenced by the thick and distorted lines and text structure of the script and the librarian,It has also developed a strange style and structure, pursuing a ugly and interesting style.

In the opening of 2017's penn's solo exhibition "Calligraf2ity", Japanese bookmaker Wanmei performed a writing performance to write the words "and respect the silence". Combining the "Calligraphy" book and the "Graffiti" graffiti, Wanmei explores the connection and balance between the two - the former as the long-term cultivation of language visual art, the latter is a part of hip-hop culture; the work is full of strength and cozy atmosphere, writing The process is calm, not ill. In this exhibition, she exhibited the "Female" series, "Black" series and some traditional scroll works.

The "Female" series is highly regarded in the exhibition. This series of works originally began with the purposeless writing of lines, but then Wanmei found that the word "female" consisted of only three simple lines, but there were many possibilities for change due to the characteristics of stroke and font, and then developed into a complete series. . "First, I will pick four colors first, then use one of them for the surface of the medium. Then, use the remaining three colors to write the word "female". She adds different colors to create texture and color changes in the writing, so that Although the "female" series works with a single character as an element, it has a strong dynamic and visual effect. The "Black" series is written in black ink on many black objects, and the black objects are displayed in various shapes on the white wall, creating a strong visual interest.

In addition to the writing of Chinese characters, there are also many elements of writing in different language systems such as numbers and English. "When I write down English and numbers, I feel that it seems to be a higher freedom in the traditional book." For her, that is an unconstrained unconstrained tradition and writing norms; Art and hip-hop culture are strongly attracted. In Wanmei's works, "writing" has a little more external force, which has become a boost to the tradition of writing books, blurring the barriers of calligraphy and the outside world.

This time we used the exhibition to talk to her about the book and the idea of creation.

. How did you get into the field of book art?

The first time I wrote calligraphy was in elementary school. After that time, I asked my mother to let me take the course of writing calligraphy; then I went to Dadong Culture University to study calligraphy. Even after graduating from school, I continued to write—while doing temporary and unfixed work while continuing to write. Until now, "Book Road" and "Calligraphy" have become my art and work.

. Why did you choose the "Black" series and the "female" series this time as the exhibition in Pengding?

These two series are meaningful to me, not only because I enjoy the process of creating them, but also because they use non-traditional techniques - I think viewers can also experience and enjoy them. At the same time, I also joined several "orthodox" books to present the profound cultivation of this long-standing traditional art form.

The use of books and cursives, in addition to the fact that they are relatively free and easy to master in the process of performance, when I write two types of fonts, I feel that my emotions and enthusiasm can be more fully displayed. Similarly, when I write the English and numbers of non-traditional writing, I feel that it seems to show a higher freedom in the traditional book.

. In addition to the works of the "Female" series, there are many repetitive words in the written text, such as "and respect for silence", "blessing", etc. How do you decide to use these words as your writing content?

In fact, these words are usually related to my current mood and mood. The meaning of each of them is that I especially like to have feelings. On the other hand, they are easier for me to write.

. What is the most fascinating thing about the art of bookwriting for you? What is your creative philosophy? What is the process of writing for you?

As a full-time "book leader", I can learn about the various aspects of history and works from people in different backgrounds and fields. As for the philosophy of creation, I think that I don't have a clear philosophy, and that creation is based on feelings. In my usual life, I often travel in different parts of a city, trying to know a wide variety of people, accumulating and digging inspiration. Yes, in fact, these processes and writings allow me to feel the inner peace, but at the same time they also show the unique beauty I am pursuing.

. It is said that your creation is deeply influenced by street culture and hip-hop culture.

The spontaneity of hip-hop culture and the simple understanding of street art have a profound impact on my work. In both of these, a sincere response to a good performance is also a very attractive place for me.

. On the opening day, at the scene of Peng Ding, it seems like a ritual. You write the content in the air and then write it. What is the calligraphy on the spot for you?

"Pre-writing" in the air is like a kind of "pre-release" and "rehearsal" for me. Every performance is unique in life, wearing a kimono - the kimono is like my armor, wearing it like a deformation of itself, entering the state - focusing on the whole performance and preparing itself through the process of rehearsal It is very necessary for me.

. Finally, please share the scholarly artist you admire.

The true color of the silent era: Chaplin's World, Chaplin World, Switzerland

The era of black and white silent films may now look a bit out of place, and Charlie Chaplin (1889.4.16- 1977.12.25) has become a classic of film, crossing the barriers of time. Many people say that Chaplin’s film is a farce. He is indeed, in the midst of laughter, he has the most potential for everyday humor. The early works are the gaze of the bottom of society. With the sufficiency of resources and the course of life, his focus shifts to the economic structure, the description of social phenomena, and even the entry of political language. He said very little, but everyone knows that Harper's Weekly once said that Chaplin is a common language of all countries. Born in London, he tried various performances. In 1913, he got a chance to develop in the United States. He began to imagine the role. He wrote in his autobiography: "He wants everything to be contradictory: too big loose suit pants. I have a mustache suit, a small hat and a big shoe. I have a mustache for myself, it looks mature, but it doesn't cover my expression. I started to understand "he", when I walked "He" was born when he came to power." Chaplin's original shape was formed in Mabel's Strange Predicament until 1915...
