Unfinished completion: scaffolding in the workspace, Shanghai UNFINISHED SPACE

By

The scaffolding outside the building has not been demolished. It generally indicates that the construction of the building has not yet been completed. Basically, there is no need to repeat the hyphens. Most people know that the danger is not close. In the process of building construction, the scaffolding only plays a temporary auxiliary role, which is not very beautiful and large and cumbersome; when its mission is finished, that is, the finish of the building's exterior wall is completed, it will face the fate of disassembly. In addition to the sorrow of metal collisions at the end of the dying, it remained silent and never preached the hard work that had been contributed. The role of a behind-the-scenes hero, such as a material or non-material, organism or non-organic body, occupies the majority. Finding these quiet supporting roles and giving them a chance to speak is one of the goals of designers or artists. Shanghai's construction team X & Collective Design (XCoD) created a work space for the women's wear brand UOOYAA, which is based on the unfinished state of the scaffolding as the core concept of the space design. The main designer, Alex Xie, described: "We want to turn the scaffolding (scrubber) into the protagonist in space, because we want the space to show an unfinished state, which can make people feel indifferent. Keeping humility can make people clear goals, not follow the trend, can make people open minded, full of curiosity about the unknown.” The original building of the UOOYAA Shanghai office is the warehouse of the Aerospace Factory, the construction team maintains its original structure, and the renovation is heavy. The top of the building was built with wood and a long-line skylight was opened to improve the lighting restrictions of the original large-area building. In the internal structure, a part of the second floor space has been added. It is installed in the main office and conference room. The employees can directly look out at the blue sky and feel the sunshine during work or rest, in order to expel a whole day of hard work and irritability. Also, because only part of the space has two layers, and the large and small hollow areas are irregularly opened on the floor, the entire area of the bottom floor can also maximize the daylight. The ground floor of the first floor is made of gray-white stone. At the same time, the transparent and translucent hollow board façades with different heights are used to separate the meeting room and the office area. It not only matches the lacquered white eagle in the space, but also makes the overall space spacious and bright. In response to the special needs of clothing brands to organize various events, XCoD designed a multi-functional reception counter to expand its use area and use; in the public area arrangement, the smoothness and flexibility of the moving line also fits the clothing show place. need. In the space arrangement of the bright color system, the tall green plant is set at a fixed point, so that the greening can be vertically connected in one or two layers, not only cleverly connecting the inner and lower space, but also becoming a transition between outdoor and indoor. The space design concept that continues with the spirit of the clothing brand, the scaffold design left in the various pipelines and patterns, and the employees who work in this space are urged in the "unfinished" state, do not easily meet the status quo, hug Hold an open heart and fill up with dissatisfied curiosity to meet every challenge in the work. Tropical rainforest within the ball, loaded with the city Fendo: Amazon creates the indoor jungle The Spheres

By

Ancient humans from birth to conscious thinking process, feet on the mud, let the toes fall into the soil to feel the temperature of life; they curiously erect their ears, look at each other, and gain knowledge from all sides from experience. In the process of exploration, the original materials used for learning and use are gifts from the earth. Plants are the material for people to know, feel the environment and the world around them. From the initial creative behavior until the civilization opened up new land, the once nomadic ethnic group now erected white-collar workers, straddle the zebra crossing on the asphalt road; until they walked into the gates of the high-rise buildings, they began to struggle with the work and hit the keyboard. The day. Until now, surrounded by towering buildings in the city, lacking the environment of forests and primitive landscapes, people are back and forth in busy cities, and close contact with nature is no longer so within reach. In Seattle, there is a new happening that breaks the boundaries between cities and nature – one of the world's leading e-commerce companies, Amazon, which took seven years to create "The Spheres." "Let the employees who often race against time have an opportunity to breathe fresh air." Responding to Amazon CEO Jeffrey. Bezos's famous saying: "It's all about the long term." The Spheres, not only as the company's second headquarters in Seattle, but also inspires employees, learns and contacts for Seattle residents. A natural resting place. The Spheres this year (2018) 1 Moon phase in downtown Seattle, connected by three connected spheres. The NBBJ construction team responsible for this huge project has transplanted more than 40,000 plants and designed a unique “work environment” for Amazon to create a pristine space like a rainforest. "Our goal is to create a unique meeting place where employees can collaborate and inspire; here, residents of Seattle can experience the diversity of life here." - John Schoettler, vice president of Amazon, has no closed office, Meeting space or standard-shaped desk; large planting and natural light during the day, supplemented by indoor temperature control system to create an indoor tropical rainforest environment; let the working time with the plant and cycle regulation, Convert to clear and efficient action. The Understory is open to Seattle residents and has long-term cooperation with local schools and universities to provide students and residents with a forest-like experience. Through field contact and viewing, they can further understand and experience nature, scientific engineering and various plants. . The three spheres, covered by steel-framed glass, are up to 27 meters in diameter and over 36 meters in diameter. The outer wall is covered with a pentagon hexahedral 2643 piece of transparent high-efficiency glass. The design team entrains the middle layer. Thin film to reduce the interference of infrared rays. The three spheres are connected to each other in the room, and the natural light penetrates the glass, allowing the plants to receive the baptism of the sun, thereby maintaining the ecological balance. Through the mini rainforest climate control, the ambient humidity is maintained at a balance point, which even includes a tree house stacked by wooden boards, allowing employees to stay on top for meditation and relaxation. Under the warm light of transparent glass, this place is located in the city center, but isolated from the indoor rainforest outside the city buildings, like a harmonious world of nature and civilization. After building a high degree and drawing the boundaries between the city and nature, Seattle seems to have returned to the origin of coexistence with nature. Image Sources: The...

Back to school-like sense of belonging: Airbnb Dublin International Headquarters

By

Nearly three years after the establishment of the Airbnb Dublin office, the recent international headquarters in Dublin has once again worked with Heneghan Peng Architects. The original building was formerly a warehouse of more than 4,000 pings, so the design team used the advantages of the building itself to design a staircase across the different floors in the visual center, perfectly explaining the concept of Airbnb “sharing”. The overall design style of the Dublin International Headquarters is most noticeable. It is like a long ladder that runs back into the campus and runs through the atrium. This ladder not only becomes a walkway on the upper and lower floors, but also enhances the staff. The transparency of the field of vision promotes the discussion and communication of each other, and the ladder also has the possibility of socializing employees. Airbnb's environmental design team incorporates the concept of “neighborhood” into this plan, and employees can freely discuss groups in semi-open, independent spaces; even turning corners, sofas or simple high chairs are placed in good view. The location allows everyone to pick and choose the corner work. The interior style is made of a large amount of wood, black C-shaped steel and floor-to-ceiling glass as the main material; the furniture selection is dominated by a colorful single chair, creating a relaxed atmosphere of "home" - echoing the spirit of Airbnb. Different from the general office planning, the beige lampshade on the wall adds warmth and calmness. In the open windows of individual semi-open spaces, it is like stepping into a well-designed and comfortable coffee shop. The roof shape of some indoor spaces, or the apex, or the bare lines like industrial style, use the contours of the building itself to find a variety of ways of use; shuttle, involuntarily let people feel the Airbnb living style in the sharing economy, non-stop Inspire the possibilities of creativity. To reflect Airbnb's multicultural background around the world, each meeting space is designed from existing Airbnb elements around the world – part of Airbnb's global office design strategy. At the headquarters in Dublin, the heneghan peng architectural design team also worked with the staff to conceive the office decoration. The home accessories were selected from the countries on Airbnb's current map, for example, from the table in Romania, or It is an ornament from a house in France. ...
